LEBOHANG MOLEFI TO REPRESENT THE COLLEGE AT THE WORLD SKILLS SOUTH AFRICA NATIONAL COMPETITIONS ON BRICKLAYING

World Skills South Africa in association with Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) recently organised Regional and Provincial competitions on Construction and Building Technology Programmes. Students from other Colleges and Universities also applied. The category for participation ranged from Construction and Building, Creative Arts and Fashion, Information and Communication Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Social and Professional Services and Transport and Logistics professions.

Only 8 Goldfields TVET College students : Athabile Kwaaiman, Teboho Mbalate, Lebohang Molefi, Lehlohonolo Hlalele, Kleinbooi Pateng, Prince Lerato Booy, Portia Mahlatsi and Hendrika Seekoei made the cut into the provincial competitions enabling them to participate in the regional and provincial competitions. These students participated against each other on bricklaying. They were expected to build a King’s Throne model within the 8 hours they were granted to complete the model. The Experts and Lecturers from the Tosa Campus, Majuba TVET College and CIDB: Messrs Ivan van der Ross, Hendrik van Wyk, Goitsemang Nomga, Pranveer Harriparsadh, Rishi Durgadia, and Mesdames Kedibone Meje and Mmabatho Lintoe judged the students dimensions, leveling, plumb, alignment, details, finishing of the test model amongst other criteria to select the best bricklayer to represent the College at the National competitions.

The aim of this competition was to   field the best competitors to represent Goldfields TVET College at the World Skills South African Competitions. The South African competitions will be modelled on the WorldSkills International Competition in order to select the best possible candidates to represent the country. The final round of selections will be at the National competitions scheduled to take place at the Durban International Convention Centre in February 2019 to best prepare them for the competitions, which will be hosted in Kazan Russia on 22 – 27 August 2019.

 

The 45th WorldSkills Competition will bring together more than 1,300 young professionals representing more than 70 countries who will compete in over 50 skills. The event will be held at the KAZAN EXPO International Exhibition Centre where more than 1,000 Experts will evaluate the Competitors’ work.

Mr. Lebohang Molefi a Report 191 student N3 Mechanical Engineering Student took the 1st prize and was awarded with a certificate and a toolbox sponsored by the CIBD while his runner ups were awarded with certificates to appreciate their will for participating in the competition.

Goldfields TVET College is looking forward to the National Competitions and we are confident that we will receive the best representation to qualify us for the International competitions.
