Student Support Services
Goldfields TVET College is committed to the holistic development and success of its students through a comprehensive range of Student Support Services (SSS). These services are designed to promote academic excellence, personal growth, and overall wellbeing across all campuses.
Core Services Offered:
- Personal & Career Counselling: Individual therapy and career development support, including student profiling and guidance for informed academic and career decisions.
- Student Funding: Assistance with bursary applications through NSFAS and external funders such as SETAs, with support from our dedicated Financial Aid Office.
- Student Liaison & Academic Support: Oversight of student sports, arts and culture, peer tutoring, and academic assistants. The SSS team also monitors absenteeism through home visits.
- Support for Students with Disabilities: Services include applying for concessions, sourcing assistive devices, and training staff in partnership with external stakeholders to support inclusive learning environments.
- Student Leadership: Coordination and development of the Student Representative Council (SRC).
- Social Support & Life Skills: Programmes covering Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), substance abuse awareness, and psycho-education.
Health & Wellness:
In partnership with Higher Health, the college runs regular health and wellness activations to address factors that may hinder academic success. Focus areas include:
- HIV, TB, and STIs
- Gender-Based Violence
- Disability Inclusion
- LGBTQI+ Awareness
- Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention
- Mental Health Support
- Sexual and Reproductive Health
- General Wellness and Peer Education
Students in need of assistance can visit the Campus Care Worker at Tosa and Welkom campuses, or consult with the registered counsellor at Welkom Campus.

Sport, Arts & Culture:
Goldfields TVET College participates in activities through the College Sport Arts and Culture South Africa (CoSACSA) and is affiliated with Athletics Free State. Students engage in various sporting codes such as netball, soccer, chess, volleyball, and basketball, as well as cultural activities including traditional dance, poetry, debate, painting, and choral music.
NSFAS Bursary Support:
The college supports qualifying students in applying for the DHET TVET College Bursary Scheme administered by NSFAS. Applicants must meet specific criteria, including South African citizenship, financial need, and enrolment in an approved programme. SASSA beneficiaries and students from households earning less than R350,000 annually are strongly encouraged to apply.
