On the 17th of November 2016 the Department of Higher Education and Training in collaboration with Goldfields TVET College and other Post-School Education and Training organisations launched its 1st door to door
campaign that was held in Meloding Township (Virginia).
This is the quintessential grassroots campaign, led by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education Training Hon. Mdududzi Manana in effort to engage with the youth and the community at large on Post-School Education and Training opportunities such as Bursary Funding, Career Guidance Campaign/ Kheta and the SETA roles.
Hon. Manana was accompanied by the Chairperson of the College Council Mr. Eddie Lesenyeho, The College Principal Mr. Francis Mahlangu, Deputy Principal: Corporate Services Mr. Moeletsi Pinkoane, the 2 College Campus Managers Dr. Dobby Radile, Mrs. Manono Mofokeng and HOD for Learnerships Mr. Peka Qhojeng who were all effectively involved in sharing information on how to apply at Goldfields TVET College, NSFAS Bursary Funding, and available opportunities by the accredited SETAs within the College. Approximately 100 households were visited and over 1000 enquiries pertaining to Higher Education and Skills Development matters were raised.
The College officials also briefed the community about things to look out for when choosing the institutions of higher learning to prevent them from being scammed by unregistered and bogus Colleges and Training Providers who offer unaccredited qualifications.
This activation will be rolled out every month starting from January 2017 at rural and small towns in South Africa where societal ills such as high unemployment rate, poverty and issues of inequality are more rampant and need to be dealt with effectively.
