LEBOHANG MOLEFI TO REPRESENT THE COLLEGE AT THE WORLD SKILLS SOUTH AFRICA NATIONAL COMPETITIONS ON BRICKLAYING

World Skills South Africa in association with Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) recently organised Regional and Provincial competitions on Construction and Building Technology Programmes. Students from other Colleges and Universities also applied. The category for participation ranged from Construction and Building, Creative Arts and Fashion, Information and Communication Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Social and Professional Services and Transport and Logistics professions.

Only 8 Goldfields TVET College students : Athabile Kwaaiman, Teboho Mbalate, Lebohang Molefi, Lehlohonolo Hlalele, Kleinbooi Pateng, Prince Lerato Booy, Portia Mahlatsi and Hendrika Seekoei made the cut into the provincial competitions enabling them to participate in the regional and provincial competitions. These students participated against each other on bricklaying. They were expected to build a King’s Throne model within the 8 hours they were granted to complete the model. The Experts and Lecturers from the Tosa Campus, Majuba TVET College and CIDB: Messrs Ivan van der Ross, Hendrik van Wyk, Goitsemang Nomga, Pranveer Harriparsadh, Rishi Durgadia, and Mesdames Kedibone Meje and Mmabatho Lintoe judged the students dimensions, leveling, plumb, alignment, details, finishing of the test model amongst other criteria to select the best bricklayer to represent the College at the National competitions.

The aim of this competition was to   field the best competitors to represent Goldfields TVET College at the World Skills South African Competitions. The South African competitions will be modelled on the WorldSkills International Competition in order to select the best possible candidates to represent the country. The final round of selections will be at the National competitions scheduled to take place at the Durban International Convention Centre in February 2019 to best prepare them for the competitions, which will be hosted in Kazan Russia on 22 – 27 August 2019.

 

The 45th WorldSkills Competition will bring together more than 1,300 young professionals representing more than 70 countries who will compete in over 50 skills. The event will be held at the KAZAN EXPO International Exhibition Centre where more than 1,000 Experts will evaluate the Competitors’ work.

Mr. Lebohang Molefi a Report 191 student N3 Mechanical Engineering Student took the 1st prize and was awarded with a certificate and a toolbox sponsored by the CIBD while his runner ups were awarded with certificates to appreciate their will for participating in the competition.

Goldfields TVET College is looking forward to the National Competitions and we are confident that we will receive the best representation to qualify us for the International competitions.

INVITATION FOR NOMINATIONS TO SERVE IN THE GOLDFIELDS TVET COLLEGE COUNCIL

 

Goldfields TVET College, under the authority of the Minister of Higher Education and Training, was established in terms of Chapter 2 of Continuing Education and Training Act, Act No 16 of 2006 hereby invites members of public to serve in its College Council for a period of 5 years.

 

Interested persons must have an understanding of a post-school education and training system that is geared to contributing to eradicating the legacy of apartheid and knowledge and understanding of the legislation governing the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Sector e.g. National Development Plan (NDP), Continuing Education and Training (CET) Act of 2006 (as amended) Post-School Education and Training (PSET), Quality Council for Trades and Occupations, as well as competencies in the following areas: BUSINESS/FINANCE, HUMAN RESOURCES and LEGAL SKILLS.

 

The Act further requires Council to appoint a DONOR, who will advise on how to source donor funding to meet college developmental needs.

 

Candidates must be independent thinkers, have integrity and be able to provide strategic direction to the College Council and the Minister.

GOLDFIELDS TVET COLLEGE EARNS 1ST POSITION ON THE NATIONAL TVET COLLEGES DEBATE COMPETITIONS

Goldfields TVET College has done it again, shinning its light and displaying its mettle. Our Student Debate Team proved to be the A team amongst other students who participated at the National TVET Colleges Debate competitions held in Bloemfontein during August. The team comprised of two students Ms Keneilwe Mathengtheng NCV Level 4 Marketing Student and Ms Violet Makatsa NCV Level 4 Hospitality Student.

One could tell by the mood, tone and intensity of the subjects that affect the lives of  South African youth, that only presenters who came prepared and had earnest knowledge about topics would come out victorious! The focal topic that earned Goldfields 1st position was the question that: IS SOUTH AFRICA READY FOR A FEMALE PRESIDENT?

The College Executive Management extends a warm gratitude to Ms Olga Seate Communication Lecturer and Ms Constant Lithuge Students Support Services Officer for their hard work and ensuring that their coaching and mentoring of the students brand our students and that they fly up the College Banner!

Dr Pitso Kheza was born in Kroonstad and matriculated at Bodibeng Secondary School in the year 2000.  He obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2003 from Vista University; Bachelor of Psychology in 2005 and the Post Graduate Certificate in Education in 2008 from the Central University of Technology, Free State; a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of North West in 2014.  In 2017, he completed the Supply Chain Management Certificate from the University of the Free State.  He Graduated with a PhD from the Central University of Technology, Free State in 2018 under the supervision of Prof. G Alexander, PhD (UFS) and Prof. S.N Matoti, Ed.D (University of Bristol, UK).  Dr Pitso Kheza is a Senior Education Specialist in the Student Support Services Department at Goldfields TVET College.

 

The title of his thesis is “Designing a framework for the advancement of lecturer capacity in developing Graduate Attributes at a Technical Vocational Education and Training College.”

 

In this Mixed Methods Study, Dr Pitso Kheza examined the perceptions of students, lecturers and participants from industry on the role Technical and Vocational Education plays in skilling and upgrading the quality of students for the world of work, hence the need to develop lecturers’ capacity in enhancing and developing relevant and responsive Graduate Attributes. The quantitative data emanated from the questionnaires completed by 2000 students while the qualitative data emanated from ten focus group interviews, as well as an information-sharing workshop with students and lecturers. The participants’ perceptions of how the industry could be incorporated into TVET activities were thoroughly scrutinised. The study concludes in recommending that all relevant stakeholders need to be given a space in the TVET sector to assist in the development of graduates for the world of work and a transformed society.   Strong links between   South African TVET colleges, the labour market and civil society have to be established in the form of Work Integrated Learning and Workplace Based Experience.

2018 GRADUATION AND CERTIFICATES ENDOWMENT CEREMONY

Goldfields TVET College pronounces its successful 2018 Graduation and Certificates endowment ceremony that took place on Wednesday. The occasion was comprised of 2 sessions that took place in the morning and afternoon. 249 Report 191 Nated students were endowed with N6 National Certificates, NC (V) Level 4 with 74 certificates, and 155 students with National N Diploma certificates. The College extends a warm gratitude to the Graduates, their Parents/Guardians, College Lecturing staff , Support Personnel, Senior Management, College Partners, Host Employers, the College Student Representative Council (SRC) and the College Council  for making this event possible.
